Van Cleef & Arpels Brightens the Stars

The Very Creative Artists of Van Cleef & Arpels mixed it up with Jessica Alba, Anne Hathaway, Marissa Tomei and Elizabeth Hurley at the Costume Institute’s Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Seen here are three of the stars with their regalia from Van Cleef & Arpels. Hathaway, dressed by Marc Jacobs, sported Camelia earrings (5.8 carats of emeralds and diamonds), between-the-finger Lotus diamond ring and the Zip Paris Trocedero diamond ring.

Alba is seen here in a dress by Jason Wu with Cotillon earrings (cabochon drop Zambian emeralds and diamonds totaling 51.08 carats). Tomei complements her vintage Adrian gown with 1967 Estate diamond-center earrings with twisted yellow gold and a 1958 Estate bracelet with an 8 carat cabochon sapphire and 4.5 carats of diamonds.

Cartier Scores A Century

For its 100th birthday blowout in North America, luxury superbrand Cartier went big on celebrities and charity, with the launch of Bruce Webber’s new Cartier book: Cartier…100 Years of Passion and Free Spirit in America.

Cartier president and CEO Bernard Fornas was present and played host to the likes of Demi Moore, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Eva Mendes, Kate Hudson and Rachel Weisz.

Part of the proceeds from sales of Webber’s book will benefit ServiceNation, a coalition of 190 non-profit organizations that promote community service and empower individuals to make a difference in society.

The book goes on sale worldwide from June 2009. At the birthday bash, Cartier also showcased 100 unique creations and elements from private collections in an exhibition that will run till the end of June in New York, then Los Angeles.

Posh in the Flesh

While her husband David Beckham reveals what lies beneath for Motorola, Victoria Beckham brings out the big guns for Emporio Armani’s lingerie line. Mrs. Becks is of course a fast friend of Giorgio Armani so it’s no surprise that she’s fronting this campaign, in larger than life form. The covers came off the campaign at Macy’s Herald Square in New York City recently.

High Marks: Marc by Marc Jacobs

The Audi Fashion Festival in Singapore continued with a spirited show from   Marc Jacobs via his Marc By Marc Jacobs Spring/Summer 2009 line.

Along with Christian Lacroix, Marc by Marc Jacobs showcased the breezy spring/summer collection, not autumn/winter. Artfully playful, Marc By Marc Jacobs offered the perfect antidote to the gloomy atmosphere of the present with baby doll dresses and playsuits in twills, cottons, poplins, canvas and leather.

Brahmin Les Roses Vittora, Handbag of the Day

Brahmin Les Roses Vittora

The Brahmin Les Roses Vittora is our favorite handbag in a line of close seconds. We love the Brahmin Les Roses collection -- it's sleek, suitable for work or a night at the opera, affordable, and we just love those croc embossed roses!

This sassy little purse is just 8" x 9.25" x 4" and has a lot of personality. You can remove the 24" strap (if you've firmly left the 80s behind) and carry it as a demure, free-standing case, or just fling it over your shoulder and watch the roses dangle at your hip.

The bag has a center divider pocket and a back slide pocket, as well as interior zips. The goldtone hardware accentuates the meticulous hand crocodile embossing. We think this style is youthful and bold, especially in this Dune shade -- it also comes in Black, Truffle, and Pecan.

The Brahmin Les Roses Vittora is available from Brahmin Leather Works for $275.00. See the gallery below for a side view and more items from the luscious Les Roses Collection.

Martini Girl Too Hot for Formula 1 Drivers

in Monaco

A billboard featuring sultry model Jessiqa Pace (above) on the racetrack at the Monaco Grand Prix had to be taken down after it proved too distracting to Formula 1 drivers over the weekend. Pace, 29, appears in the campaign for Martini, the Italian winemaker founded in 1863 and famous for its iconic vermouth.

F1 team representatives asked for the posters to be taken down after drivers complained during trial runs; champ Lewis Hamilton crashed in Saturday's qualifying round close to the gigantic image of Jessiqa. "All the attention is overwhelming," she told the London Daily Star. "I find it really funny. Obviously it's very flattering that I'm distracting the drivers so much, but I'd feel terrible if someone got hurt."

Hermes breeds own crocs to meet bag demand

French luxury goods group Hermes has resorted to breeding its own crocodiles on farms in Australia to try to meet demand for its leather bags, its chief executive told Reuters on Monday.

Customers sometimes have to wait several years for certain exotic-skin bags, which can fetch over 35,000 euros ($48,410).

“ It can take three to four crocodiles to make one of our bags so we are now breeding our own crocodiles on our own farms, mainly in Australia,” Patrick Thomas told the Reuters Global Luxury Summit in Paris.

Gucci Opens Sleek Flagship Store in Shanghai

Gucci opens it 28th store in China on the 6 June 2009, to mark the occasion Frida Giannini has created a limited edition “Shanghai Dragon Bag”.

A version of the sort after Boston Bag in white with two red Dragons facing each other in a symmetrical fashion and the Gucci signature in the middle, underneath is a bright red column.

Inspiration for the design comes from ancient Chinese Symbolism including the use of prosperous red, a sign of good luck.

The concept for the bags moves on from previous personalised collections, which have worked successfully - Sloaney (London), Gucci NY (New York) and Gucci 50’s postcard (Rome), all were limited edition runs and sold out rather quickly.

200 limited edition Dragon bags have been produced and are only available to purchase at the Gucci store, Shanghai.

With several redesigned flagship stores having already been unveiled in London, New York, Rome and Madrid – the Shanghai store is the latest in a line of Gucci superstores born of Gianinni’s refreshed creative concept.
